Whether we want to admit it or not, many of us are addicted to our smart phones and can’t go past the lure of a good app. Some are time-wasters while others make life that little bit easier. Fortunately, apps about moving house fall into the latter category.
Here are some of the best apps on the market. Once you download them you’ll wonder how anyone has ever moved house without them.
FINDING THE RIGHT HOME
Realestate.com.au – Just like the website, this app helps you search to buy or rent using your current location (shows what is on the market near you) or by suburb.
Domain.com.au – View full listings and photos for properties available for sale or rent, see when they’re open for inspection, and email or call the agent directly from your phone. There’s even a shortlist feature so you can keep track of your favourites.
CommBank Property Guide – Stand out the front of a property, take a picture and find out what date it was last sold. It also lists properties that have sold in the area recently with their prices, detailed suburb profiles and a monthly home loan repayments calculator.
Home Tracker – Feeling bamboozled?? Home Tracker allows you to document each property in detail as you visit it. In addition to storing property information, HomeTracker can easily take Photos, Map a property and perform a Google search!
IT’S TIME TO MOVE
House Move, Moving House, Moving Checklist, Move Planner – These four apps essentially do the same thing. They provide to-do lists for every stage of your move from 4-6 weeks before you move. The lists are fully editable so you can tailor them to suit you.
House Cleaning List – Great for renters who don’t want to lose their bond. This app includes pre-loaded to-do lists, which can be customised to suit your home and its particular state of disarray.
Moving Van – Moving Van allows you to easily identify the contents of every box you pack when moving house, relocation or putting items into storage. As each box is packed, you can use the app to detail the contents, take photos of the items in the box, and assign each box a unique name or number.
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR NEW AREA
TripGo – Currently in Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth, this app features public transport timetables for each city. Sydneysiders can also use Tripview Lite Sydney, which performs the same function.
Google places – Using your current location you can search nearby for restaurants, bars, hotels, attractions and ATMS. You can read reviews others have posted and decide whether the place would be worth it or not, on the spot
SETTING UP YOUR NEW HOME
Bubble level – This is a gem of an app. It’s a virtual spirit level, which tells you whether you’re hanging pictures up straight.
Houzz Interior Design Ideas – Owned by CNN, Houzz has the largest database of home design ideas. Browse photos by style, room and location and save them to your virtual ideabook — it’s the equivalent of clipping design magazines to a scrapbook.
