The housing shortage in Australia is the worst I have ever seen. It has become a significant concern, particularly in remote areas. The demand for housing has outpaced supply, leading to rising property prices and limited accommodation options. This directly affects companies looking to attract international talent, as securing suitable housing for their employees has become a major hurdle.

What are some common short-term accommodation solutions that companies are opting for to address this challenge?

Companies are increasingly seeking longer-term accommodation options for stability and future planning, leading to a shift in the industry. While temporary housing solutions like serviced apartments, extended stay hotels, and corporate housing still play a role, there’s a growing demand for more permanent arrangements.

Some of our clients are renting cabins at caravan parks located in regional areas. And in places where there’s a significant shortage, Grace has provided luxury caravans to clients until long-term accommodation becomes available.

The current trend involves providing fully furnished and equipped homes for employees on a shared basis, with the company handling cleaning, gardening, internet, streaming services, and in some cases, consumables. Many of Grace’s clients are securing lease agreements in the name of the respective company. This setup works well for single employees who receive housing assistance and are open to sharing. Couples and families typically receive their own dedicated home.
