Greenfleet’s 2024 Queensland tree planting event

On19 April 2024, a team of volunteers from Grace, including James Cutts, Darren Turner, and Corie Reid, participated in Greenfleet‘s 2024 Queensland tree planting event. Nestled in the Ringtail Creek in Noosa Hinterland, approximately 160 km from Brisbane CBD, this event was a fantastic opportunity for the team to engage in environmental stewardship by planting native trees and immersing themselves in Greenfleet’s mission for climate action.

The chosen site, Ringtail, represents a collaborative effort between Greenfleet, the Kabi Kabi Peoples Aboriginal Corporation, and Noosa & District Landcare. Once a pine plantation, this area is undergoing transformation into protected native habitat. Owner of Cultural Catalyst, Brian Warner’s warm Welcome to Country set the tone for the day, acknowledging the significance of indigenous stewardship and connection to the land.

This region is home to endangered koala populations, underscoring the importance of habitat restoration. The focus of the planting centred on reintroducing eucalypt species favoured by koalas and gliders. As these seedlings mature, they will grow to around 25 metres tall at full height, providing safe homes for them to dwell in and foliage for their unique diet.

James Cutts, Northern General Manager of Grace Records Management and a repeat volunteer at the event, shared his excitement for the project, saying, “We were fortunate to plant trees as part of a partnership with Greenfleet, LandCare, and the Queensland government, restoring ex-pine plantation land.” He added, “The land is near the stunning Glasshouse Mountains, in a beautiful area of the Sunshine Coast just outside Pomona. The day was warm, and it was a wonderful experience to contribute to such a meaningful program, rejuvenating local land.”

The tree planting initiative serves as a tangible means to offset carbon emissions, aligning with Grace’s commitment to environmental sustainability. By partnering with Greenfleet, Grace not only contributes to offset carbon emission, but also supports the creation of biodiverse forests that provide essential ecosystem services. Almost 800 trees were planted on the day.

Grace will continue working with Greenfleet to reduce our fleet’s environmental impact and protect Australia’s unique wildlife and native forests.
