The TOGA Group, in cooperation with Grace Workplace Solutions, created a program to donate furniture to Coast Shelter, a not-for-profit organisation that provides “a range of services and personal support for people experiencing homelessness or domestic and family violence”1. The items include desks, chairs, sofas and appliances such as fridges and kitchen goods, all of which were bound for landfill.
The objective of the project was “to repurpose as many furniture and operational items as possible from [one of our] Adina Hotel Apartment[s] to avoid them from going into landfill. It’s a win-win, a sustainable solution and support vulnerable and disadvantage community members” said Michelle Fischl, Director of Corporate Responsibility at TOGA.
Grace Workplace Solutions volunteered to deliver the goods to Coast Shelter’s main centre in Gosford, where it’ll be used “to help people transitioning from the charity’s emergency accommodation into mainstream housing, as well as helping to furnish some of the emergency accommodation venues”2.
“It’s just been overwhelming to see the volume and the quality of goods donated to us. Often, when seeking refuge from a domestic or family violence situation, you do not take any furniture or kitchen items with you. These items will be invaluable as we help people transition into their own accommodation” said Michael Staff, CEO of Coast Shelter.
Grace was pleased and proud to be part of this program and look forward to working with the TOGA Group as well as other hospitality organisations to reuse, recycle and repurpose quality furniture to reduce the amount of goods sent to landfill and to provide a greener, and more cost-effective renovation process that helps the local community.
