Some important considerations when relocating
More helpful tips when moving
- Kitchen: Discard any open and unsealed goods
- Lounge Room: Refer to the manufacturer’s specification for guidance on preparing electronic items for transport
- Laundry: Disconnect appliances from power and water supply. Don’t forget to drain out the water and dry the interior of the machine
- Outdoor Area: Clean down garbage bins, lawn mowers, tools and other outdoor items
- Plants: Donate any plants when moving long distances
- Storage: When placing goods into storage, ensure that any personal documents are packed together and correctly labelled
- Delivery Day: Be present when your goods are delivered to correctly direct furniture and cartons to their new locations
Grace does not transport the following items:
- Cooking oil
- Cleaning solvents
- Aerosol cans
- Matches
- Pesticides
- Paint
- Thinners
- Oil
- Petrol
- Kerosene
- Methylated Spirits
- Turpentine
- Weed killers
- Photographic chemicals
- Swimming pool treatment product
Remove any fuel or gas from lawn mowers, LPG Cylinders, fire extinguishers, scuba tanks, welding gas tanks, heaters and lamps. Remove batteries from appliances.
- Use removalist quality cartons
- Wrap items individually, placing heaviest items on the bottom and lightest items on the top
- Pack similar items and sets in the same carton
- Seal the carton with 5cm packing tape, ensuring that both the base and top of the carton are securely sealed
- Mark each carton with a content description, the room it belongs to and your name
- Pack books in small cartons so that they aren’t too heavy to handle
Keep a survival pack of items you may need immediately at your new home, including:
- Kettle
- Coffee mugs
- Coffee and tea making amenities
- Cutlery
- Toilet Paper
- Favourite toys for young children
- Soap
- Corkscrew
- Bottle/can opener
- Torch
- Knife
- Paper plates
- Tissues
- Clean clothes
- Screw driver
- Hammer
These items should be packed in a separate carton, appropriately marked and placed at the rear of the load to ensure that it is one of the first items unloaded.
