Jane Riley is somewhat of a Relocations industry veteran, who has over the past 25 years, seen the sector evolve and mature. We asked her some questions about her team, the role, what motivates her and what the future holds for the industry.
We started by asking Jane how she got started in the removals/relocations industry and how she ended up as General Manager, Mobility at Grace Worldwide.
Jane relocated to Australia from UK where she completed her schooling and then engaged a Business degree majoring in Marketing. Although her initial interest was in Law with the intent of being a Barrister, she took on a few legal units and enjoyed them, however decided against pursuing a career in the Law. Jane confesses that the social aspect to university is what she enjoyed most, and we certainly believe that!
After university Jane took on a maternity leave role at Ansett Wridgways as an Export Coordinator and soon after landed a full-time role in the Sales department. Jane climbed the corporate ladder fast and some of the many rungs included; Relocation Representative, Branch Manager, Marketing Manager, and Director Sales & Marketing. Leaving Sant Fe Wridgways in 2016, she explored different industries including the manufacturing sector and a leading digital marketing agency.
Grace Managing Director, Steven Brown approached Jane in 2019 with an offer to head up Grace Mobility, managing and developing the Group’s corporate relocations business. Jane says she immediately accepted because she said “Grace was always my nemesis, the industry leader and the best of the best! The company’s customer centric approach resonates with my own values.” She resonates with Grace’s mission in listening to the customer’s needs and delivering exceptional service as key to success – always more. She also attributes her achievements to her awesome team and the support provided by the Grace Management team and Steven Brown, who she describes as an inspirational and visionary leader.
Jane believes in leading by example, “I wouldn’t ask my team to do anything I wouldn’t do, I love being involved and achieving success in collaboration with the team.”
Jane has never been afraid to attempt anything, deemed a bit of a dare devil! When asked what was on her bucket list, she says after already trying and loving skydiving, bungy jumping, helicopter flying lessons and Rap jumping (wowser!) for 2021 she has her sights on upgrading to larger Kawasaki motorbike, swimming with the sharks and learning Auslan sign language.
After a hard day’s work, Jane loves nothing more than spending quality time with her two teenage boys, and her chocolate brown Labrador, Sasha.
Jane says that parents and grandparents were her strongest influences in life and quotes Hellen Keller “Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all” as her axiom.
On the question of give me one word that would describe you she promptly said “effervescent” and that truly sums up this bubbly person.
