Relocate Magazine is urging individuals to move from Britain to Australia to take advantage of a requirement for skilled workers.

“Britain has always been a strong source of skilled migrants for companies ‘Down Under’, but today the need for overseas workers is reaching a peak,” said an article on the Relocate Magazine website.

“With the property market also experiencing a significant upturn (the number of building approvals jumped by 15.7 per cent in 2013), further shortages will emerge in residential and commercial construction as 2014 progresses.”

Back in December, the Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) urged the Federal Government to increase its migrant intake, from 190,000 in 2013/14 to a possible 220,000 in 2014/15.

According to the Ai Group, Australia is currently experiencing skills shortages in a variety of sectors, including mining, engineering, infrastructure and health. Low rates of unemployment, natural population growth, and the effects of an ageing workforce are all factors contributing to these shortages.

“While upskilling our current workforce remains a priority, a larger skilled migration programme will be necessary to manage the current situation and to assist in smoothing the path to future growth,” said Ai Group chief executive, Innes Willox.
