Project background
In early January 2022 Grace Workplace Solutions was approached by the National Herbarium team to safely transfer archival botanical specimens from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney City to the new state-of-the-art National Herbarium of New South Wales facility at Mount Annan, a 59km trip one way.
Peter Ford, Grace Project Leader together with Operations and Training Advisor Aaron Naumann collaborated to create an integrated system for object tracking and accountability throughout the relocation process.
Project goals
This project has two key goals:
1. Transport and store sensitive and valuable botanical specimens from the old facility at Sydney City, to the new facility at Mount Annan using climate-controlled vehicles that would not damage the specimens.
2. Generate accurate, real-time tracking reporting for inventory control and audit integrity.
Project outcome
Grace transported approximately 865 specimen boxes per day, and at a steady 18,000 solander boxes per month relocated 65,000 boxes against a project total of 77,000 by mid-July. The project was completed on the 16 August 2022, 6 weeks ahead of schedule.
