Grace Information and Records Management (GIRM), recently hosted its first breakfast information seminar in Perth to help local businesses better understand the recent changes to Australian privacy laws.
Guest speakers, Shirley Cowcher, Director of Information Enterprise Australia, and Paul Summers, Director of Summers Legal, provided participants with both a practical and legal viewpoint on the changes that came into effect from March this year. These changes include standards on the way your business can collect, process, store and disclose personal information as well as changes to credit reporting laws.
“Despite the wet and chilly morning, the GIRM warehouse provided the perfect backdrop to the event, with attendees enjoying a hearty breakfast while also being educated by two highly sought speakers,” said Sales Director, Derryk Guyer.
The seminar addressed such topics as:
- Business obligations under the new Privacy Act
- How to ensure our business is compliant
- The role of Directors in meeting these obligations
- The importance of good information management
As a result of the success of the seminar, GIRM plans to hold similar education sessions other capital cities throughout the year.
