Research from November 2016 conducted by Pureprofile found that on average, Australians spend 208 days moving home across a lifetime. That’s almost a year of our lives spent on moving house! Save time with your home relocation by packing your moving boxes properly to avoid time spent searching through your things.
Here are some helpful tips to label your moving boxes properly.
Use the right tools for the job
Before you start labelling your moving boxes you’ll need to make sure you have the best tools for the job ready and at hand. There’s nothing worse than taping up a box and forgetting what was inside by the time you’ve found a marker. Have your good quality tape at the ready and get some permanent and waterproof markers. Instead of simply writing the contents of the box on the side, consider printing or purchasing labels. Some moving boxes will already have a label printed on the side so you can be as specific as possible.
Sort out your labelling method
How you choose to label your boxes makes a big difference when it comes to moving out. Labelling all of your kitchen boxes as simply “kitchen” will make it more time consuming when all you’re looking for is a kettle. Label your boxes more specifically and use terms like “cutlery” and “appliances”. If you’re still not sure that will make a difference when it comes to unpacking, choose a method you think will work best. Be as specific as you need to be.
Number your boxes
Numbering your boxes will make it easier to count them at the other end of the move. Give each box a number out of a series so you know how many boxes you should have. It will also be easier to determine which boxes are lost in transit, if any at all.
Label your box’s priority
Label your boxes with a priority status such as “high”, “medium” and “low” so you know which boxes need to be unpacked first. Any toiletries and appliances, such as a phone charger and the kettle, will need to be unpacked first and therefore should be labelled as high priority. Don’t forget to label fragile effects as fragile too.
