In the spirit of Information Awareness Month (IAM), Grace Information & Records Management (GIRM) recently sponsored the Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia (RIMPA) event at the Curtin University HIVE facility. IAM aims to increase public awareness of information, its purpose and place in everyday life. The value of good practices and policies were highlighted and promoted during a number of events in May, including the role information plays in day to day activities.
The Grace sponsored event saw an informative talk by Dr. Jenna Hartel, Associate Professor from the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto, who is a Visiting Fellow at Curtin University. Her presentation titled “Information Celebration!” was based on visual data collected from around the world on how people from various cultures interpret and associate with information. Dr. Hartels visual demonstration provided a fresh perspective on the concepts that are central to records, archives, library, knowledge, information and data management communities.
An informative presentation on the GIRM business practices, technology and secure filing facilities was also delivered at the event by GIRM Perth Manager, Anne Blight.
Attended by around 50 corporate and government department representatives, the evening was informative, educational and deemed a complete success.
